BITRE publishes regular monthly, quarterly and annual road safety crash data series. 

BITRE Road Statistics

This release provides statistics relating to the number of motor vehicles registered for road use in Australia.

This release provides monthly statistics on the number of road vehicles entered on the Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) and current vehicle recall notices in Australia.

The Yearbook is published in December each year and provides estimates for Australian:

  • Road-related revenue and expenditure;
  • Sales of vehicles with active safety features;
  • Total passenger kilometres travelled;
  • Road length;
  • Lane kilometres;
  • Inter-capital road distances;
  • Licence holders;
  • Licence vehicles operators;
  • Total road freight, by vehicle type;
  • Stock of registers motor vehicles;
  • Arterial road and bridge maintenance expenditure; and
  • New motor vehicle sales.
