Australian Road Deaths Database - ARDD
Data current to November 2024
The ARDD provides basic details of road traffic crash fatalities in Australia as reported by the police each month to the State and Territory road safety authorities. It is published by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE).
Data are preliminary and subject to revision. Citations for information derived from this database should include the publisher, the database name, the webpage, and the date of access.
Details provided in the database fall into two groups:
- Fatalities : each record shows a killed person. Details include age, gender and road user group.
- Fatal crashes : each record is a fatal crash. Details include year, month, day of week, time, location, crash type, and involvement of particular vehicle types.

When is the data updated?
- The fatality data is updated on or around the 14th of each month.
- Data for heavy vehicle involvement are updated with a two month lag.
